Approved standards for motorcycle helmets. The wearing of approved standard helmets for all type of motorcyclists and their pillion passengers, including moped riders, is compulsory in Australia. Extensive research shows the effectiveness of wearing approved motorcycle helmets in preventing or reducing the risk of serious or fatal injury in a motorcycle crash.
CPN No.9 is the Commonwealth legislative instrument that defines the mandatory product safety standard for motorcycle helmets. The Australian Consumer Law (ACL) is administered identically in every State and Territory by local Departments of Fair Trading or Consumer Affairs. The ACL requires that all helmets comply with CPN No.9.
The mandatory standard specifies testing to ensure bicycle helmets meet requirements such as those for construction, design, performance, markings and safe use instructions. It is recommended that suppliers of bicycle helmets organise appropriate testing of helmets through specialist laboratories with the right skills, experience and equipment.
Current approved safety standards for helmets As per the EA General Regulations, Article 122.2: Dress and Salute, the following will apply: Except where Sport Rules allows otherwise, riders and drivers competing in an EA competition, must wear an approved helmet with the chin strap fastened at all times.
National Athletic Trainers' Association The National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE) is responsible for developing safety standards for football equipment. The NOCSAE label must be present on all football helmets. Football helmets must also include padding, air systems, a chin strap, and a face mask.
The US Office of Aviation Safety (OAS) developed a modern, cost-effective civilian aviation helmet performance standard that was published in April of 2018. Prior to the OAS standard, though, there were no rules and regulations governing the quality of helmets being manufactured and distributed.
According to the OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.135, “employees working in areas where there is a possible danger of head injury from impact, or from falling or flying objects, or from electrical shock and burns, shall be protected by protective helmets.” However, the standard does not specifically cover any criteria for the protective helmets, instead requiring that they comply with ANSI/ISEA Z89.1-2014 …
